Lil black book of lounge etiquette

As with most establishments, there is a certain etiquette and decorum that should be followed when you visit a cigar lounge. Here is a basic list of rules to follow:

1. Follow all the rules of the lounge. Each lounge has their own set of rules regarding BYOB, dress code, membership dues, sitting fees. It is a good idea to ask upon entering or call ahead.

2. Do not bring in your own cigars. You wouldn't take food into a restaurant, same goes for a cigar shop.

3. Do NOT touch or sniff the cigars unless you are buying them. Le sigh. I can't believe this has to be said, but here we are.  No one wants the oils from your hand or your unsightly nose hairs touching a cigar they will be putting to their mouth.

4.  Take advice from the tobacconist, they are there to help you find the right cigars to enjoy.

5. Tip your tobacconist, they are knowledgeable, giving advice is a service they are offering, just as you would tip your bartender. Don't be a cheap ass.

6. Be respectful of others, use Bluetooth when necessary and take calls elsewhere if others are enjoying cigars around you.

7. It is a general rule of thumb to keep politics and religion to a minimum or not at all. Lounges are meant for a time of relaxation or a time of gathering of cigar lovers. These topics can be divisive. Know your audience.

8.Enjoy your time, savor your cigar. Repeat this rule as necessary.
